

Sylvia was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, she was a long-time employee for 30 plus years at Sunnybrook nursing home now called Pelican Pointe where she started out as a CNA and held the job title of Medical Records Clerk. Sylvia loved her job and the residents she encountered. She was very detail oriented. She had a great passion for helping in various activities at the nursing home, she made many great friends while working there.
Sylvia had a love of elephants; she had a great collection. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She made the best cornbread dressing and was often asked to make several pans for the holidays. She loved to crochet. She enjoyed watching the little league playoffs. She was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. She had the most beautiful handwriting. She had great faith in our Lord and always told her grandchildren to make sure they said their prayers.
She is predeceased by her father, Juan F Segovia; mother, Elena Lugo Segovia; her sister, Estella Smith; brother, Robert Segovia and husband, Brijido Cerda.
Sylvia is survived by her husband of 26 years, John Alvarez; her 2 daughters, Maria Elena Segovia (Anthony) and Beatrice Cerda (Daniel); 5 grandchildren, Victoria Segovia (Rob), David Griffin, Esmeralda Rios (Javier), Sofia Hernandez and Kathryn Cerda; 2 great grandchildren, Ze’Myiah Griffin and Amora Ruiz; her brother, Juan Segovia and various nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank the staff at DaVita South for the love and support they have given to our mom; she considered them as part of her extended family. Dr Greeta P. Reddy and staff and Dr. Yvonne Manalo and her staff.

Visitation will be at Funeraria Del Angel –Memorial Holly, 3442 Holly Rd. on Monday October 9, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening.
Funeral Mass honoring Sylvia will be held at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 3210 S Padre Island Drive, on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 10:00 am. Services will conclude after Mass with a family gathering afterwards.
