Valentina Fernandez

Valentina Barron Fernandez born February 14, 1932, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 30, 2010. Our beloved mother went with open arms to our beloved Father. Vale, as many family members and friends knew her, was greatly loved by so many. It was for her kindness, patience and giving of her unconditional love that she will be remembered.

Mom enjoyed life fully, she enjoyed watering her garden of flowers and sewing for her family and friends; whether it was a hem on slacks or a cheerleaders uniform or a costume.

She enjoyed her times with her grandchildren, attending birthday parties, football games and dance recitals.

Mom enjoyed her children, adored her grandchildren, and was there to welcome the birth of her beautiful great-granddaughter, Alicia.

Alicia was blessed to know such a fine great-grandma. Valentina was born in Gonzales, Texas, moved to Mississippi and settled in Corpus Christi where she met and married Jesus Fernandez. They married on February 12, 1961. She enjoyed visiting and spending time at the Freer Texas Ranch and the Frio River which was a favorite part of Valentina’s life that she enjoyed for the last time this past summer with all of her family.

Valentina is preceded in death by her parents Diego Barron and Cerilda Estrada; several brothers and sisters; and her husband Jesus (Chuy) Fernandez who passed away March 26, 2005.

Valentina is survived by her loving family, Jessica (Gilbert Garza, Jr) , Eduardo “Eddie” (Sonia) Fernandez and Veronica (Ronald Lichtenberger), her grandchildren, Robbie, Gabriela, Joshua, Jonah, Victoria, Sarah, Ronald, Jr., Emilie and Isabella and one great-granddaughter, Alicia Delaine (Vivian Franco). Her survivors include brother, Domingo Barron and her sister, Ramona Morales and numerous special nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. A special thank-you to her friend, Mary Lopez and niece Janie Martinez.

Pallbearers will be Robbie, Joshua, Jonah, Ronald, Jr., Joe Fernandez and Mark Escamilla.

The family will be receiving family and friends on Thursday, September 2, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel-Memorial Holly Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 3, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
