Wayne Deward Pinson was born August 2, 1925 in Aspermont, Texas, the oldest of five children born to Walter Deward Pinson and Lillian Mae Elkins-Pinson. He was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the age of 86 in his home with family members close by.
He enlisted as a 17 year old boy in the United States Navy following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. His station during the conflict that followed was the USS Holland (AS-3), a submarine tender that saw service throughout the Pacific theater of operations. He served as a carpenter’s mate, with collateral duties that included manning an anti-aircraft battery on board the ship. At the end of his service he was honorably discharged and came home and married the love of his life, Billie Clayton. Together they had three daughters.
He was eventually hired as Physical Plant Manager at the University of Corpus Christi (now known as Texas A & M Corpus Christi) and worked there over thirty years through their many transitions. He took great pride in his work and will always be known as a man of truth, honor and humility.
Wayne is survived by his three daughters, Linda Puckett, Susan Bass (Cameron), Diana Pinson all of Corpus Christi, Texas; his loving siblings, John Pinson (Beth) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Melba Harden of Pasadena, Texas, Margaret Spitzer (Howard) of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Lyndon Pinson of Wharton, Texas; four grandchildren, Joshua Bass (Laura) of Mandeville, Louisiana, Sarah Bass-Miller (Jordan) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Jonathan Bass of Tucson, Arizona, and Caleb Bass of Corpus Christi, Texas ; three great- grandsons, Noah, Draven and Sagan of Mandeville, Louisiana; his aunt, Alma Nell Young of Corpus Christi, as well as the many nieces, nephews and close friends that will dearly miss him. There is no doubt that he is joyfully reunited with his dear Billie in the loving arms of his Lord, where they wait to have their precious family gathered all around them once again.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel.
