Wilma Lee (Jennings) Berry, 89, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on June 24, 2024. Wilma was born on Sept. 28, 1934, to Victor and Ovilla (Hinson) Jennings in Spur, Texas. After her mother died in early 1935, she was raised by her grandparents, Paxton and Lula Mae Hinson, and aunt and uncle, Zona Bell and A. H. (Bob) Pritchard. She met George Eli Berry at North Texas State University (UNT) because their roommates were dating. Wilma and George saw the movie "White Christmas" for their first date – a movie that continues to be a family favorite. They were married on Jan. 22, 1956, in Granbury, Texas.
Wilma graduated from UNT, and then worked as a school librarian for 23 years. Twenty of those years were at Cullen Middle School, where she shared her love of reading. She and George retired in 1991. They shared many adventures together, traveling to Alaska and Australia. Wilma and George celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family before George passed in 2016.
She was a longtime member of Lexington Baptist Church. Her home was always full of books which she loved to read to her children and grandchildren. Her mashed potatoes were always a favorite, and she loved to send greeting cards for all occasions to friends and family.
Wilma is survived by her son Dale (Marian) Berry, daughter Brenda Ramirez, grandchildren James (Anna) Berry, Taylor Berry, Aubrey Berry, David Berry, Ariel Torres, Adrian Torres, great-grandchildren Leilani Berry, Koa Berry, Ellie Berry, James Torres, sister Betty Pritchard, and brothers Jim (Angela) Pritchard and John Pritchard, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
