He was born on December 15, 1939, at Mercy Hospital, Mt. Vernon, Ohio to the late Robert M. Schneck, Marion and Bertha Fern Patterson, both of Mt. Vernon. Step-parents, Helen Schneck, of Apex, NC and Walter Patterson, of Mount Vernon, OH, are deceased, along with brothers, Roger Leroy Schneck and Eric Schneck; his aunt, Betty Cocherl; along with his grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.
Barry is survived by his beloved wife, Bonnie (Knox) Schneck, of 61years; two sisters, Gail Bennett and Loren Sell. Along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Barry loved the Lord, and he knew The Bible. He enjoyed comparing world news with Bible prophecy to be informed these last days prior to The Rapture.
An avid speed reader, he enjoyed reading and watching science fiction, detective shows, and especially westerns with John Wayne, his favorite actor. He enjoyed target shooting at Woodbury Shooting Range and he was a contributor to the Buckeye State Sherrif’s Association.
A nature lover, he enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and other wildlife. He loved to shop, especially for groceries, and he was a wonderful cook, with cheesecake as his specialty. He liked anything to do with food and travel. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife, Bonnie, and you seldom seen one without the other.
Barry graduated from Marion Harding High School in May of 1957. During his high school years, after school each evening until 9:00 PM, he worked part-time at the Hotel Harding, Marion washing pots and pans, advancing to salad maker, and on to bellhop. Later, he worked at Parish Dairy as a soda jerk, and then Alber’s Super Market as a meat cutter until his graduation.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in June 1957, where he served four years as an air policeman on Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Overseas to Kadena (twice), Okinawa, and the Islands of Iwo Jima, returning to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he received his honorable discharge in June of 1961.
Working a short time at Coby Corp. in Bucyrus, Ohio as a fork truck driver, and then Kroger’s in Marion as a meat cutter, he was hired on at Weyerhauser Co. in Mt. Vernon, where he worked from May, 1962-1966. It was during this time he met his wife-to-be, Bonnie Jean Knox, of Nellie, Ohio, and knew she was the one. They were married two years later in the Nellie EUB Church on December 5, 1964.
In 1966, Barry went to work for PPG. Industry in Mt. Vernon, OH, where he worked for ten years until the plant closed in 1976. He had transfer rights to the other PPG’s, and so for the next 20 years, he worked at nine plants in five states. He received his ’30 and out’ retirement in May of 1996 out of the Creighton, PA plant, reaching his 30 year goal.
Barry and Bonnie viewed these transfers as adventurous, visiting the various points of interest while living in each of the states. Returning home to Ohio and settling in Dresden, Barry worked at The Longaberger Co. for two out of seven years, living there before moving to the Nellie area, having come full circle. His life’s journey completed, he is now Home with the Lord.
