
Edwin F. Mulligan, 97, of Coshocton, Ohio, died on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at Coshocton Co. Memorial Hospital following a short illness. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on October 16, 1915, the son of the late George A. and Ola (Curtis) Mulligan, and was a resident of Coshocton, Ohio, since 1918. He was educated in local schools, and was a graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1937. After employment in the publishing business, he joined the Jones Metal Products Company in West Lafayette, Ohio, in 1942, eventually becoming Chairman in 1972. His career at Jones Metal was interrupted by service in the United States Naval Reserve from December 1942 until September 1945, during which time he served aboard the U.S.S. Ranger, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant.
During his business career he held positions with a number of organizations. He was President of Reflector and Lamp Manufacturers Association, President of Ohio Manufacturers Association, Chairman of National Manufacturers Association, Chairman of Ohio Water Development Authority, and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Manufacturers Association.
His memberships included the Presbyterian Church in Coshocton, Ohio, Masonic Lodge #602 in West Lafayette, Ohio, Shrine, Scottish Rite, all York Rite bodies, Beta Theta Pi fraternity, American Legion, VFW, Ohio State Trapshooters Association, of which he was once President and twice Senior Veteran Champion, the Ohio Valley Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association, Coshocton County Sportsmen’s Association, and Coshocton, Fresno, and Newcomerstown, Ohio, Gun Clubs.
For a number of years, he worked in Republican Party affairs, serving as Finance Chairman during two successful campaigns by Governor James A. Rhodes. He also served on the boards of BancOhio of Coshocton, Bank One of Coshocton, Ohio Arts Council, Buckeye Union Insurance Co., the Coshocton Foundation of which he served as President, the Coshocton Town and Country Club, Square D Company, and in 1997 was chosen as the Coshoctonian of the Year.
He was married in 1940 to Janet Jones, who preceded him in death in 1991. He is survived by his daughter, Marion Mulligan Sutton, and his son-in-law, Thomas D. Sutton of Coshocton, Ohio, and five nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert C. Mulligan.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Custer Chapel of the Presbyterian Church in Coshocton, Ohio, on Friday, October 4, 2013, at 11:00AM, with Rev. Dr. Jonathan Carlisle and Rev. Robert Millspaugh officiating. A graveside service will be held in Fairfield Cemetery earlier on Friday. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2013, from 5-7PM, at Given-Dawson Funeral Home, 186 Park Ave., Coshocton, Ohio.
