William Sayre

He was raised in Newcomerstown by his father and grandparents. He graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1949, and served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953.

Bill worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 11 years and retired from Buckeye Fabric after 25 years. Bill was a former member of the Moose and the VFW post 1330. He enjoyed fishing, the Cleveland Indians and most of all spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Roseanna (Smith) Sayre of 60 years; children, Helen (Charles) Michael, Alline (Roy) Howell, William (Janet) Sayre, and Earl (Amy) Sayre; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Along with his father, Bill is preceded in death by his daughter, Priscilla Unger.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at 1:00 pm at Given-Dawson Funeral Home with Reverend Wilbur White officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
