Brandon Lee Thorpe was born on November 23, 1978 in Downey, California to Sandra A. Thorpe and Ronald Lee Thorpe. He was a Thanksgiving Day baby. He spent his life in Lakewood, Bellflower and parts of Orange County where his death happened on February 22, 2014
Costa Mesa, California. Brandon was energetic, friendly, loved animals, loved his family, loved eating, had a great sense of humor, loved cheap sunglasses, the .99 cent store and could play guitar and enjoyed music and live music performances his whole life. He last saw the musical genius, Danny Elfman, performing the music from his movies at the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles. It was an incredible performance.
Brandon enjoyed a good dry-aged steak, nice single barrel whiskeys, pho, Vietnamese egg rolls, al pastor tacos, biscuits and gravy, macaroni
and cheese, chili dogs, natural light and visits to Tijuana, Mexico. He had recently began gun collecting and shooting. He spent his last day on earth at Bass Pro Shops in Rancho Cucamonga buying rounds for his .9mm and 12GA shotgun.
Brandon had many jobs and talents. He worked as a busboy, meat cutter, pizza maker, furniture delivery person and most recently as an oil field technician and roustabout.
He was always up for a road trip. He never stopped talking about his road trip with Brian Equitz to Kentucky to see Corey Petronella. In 2012 he enjoyed a 17-day road trip with Curt Owen in a 34-foot motor home. He drove nearly 6,000 miles through California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Kansas. He had a great time. The visit to Winslow, Arizona was a thing off his bucket list. He enjoyed time spent on a man made lake in Texas with Curt's sister and family. They almost didn't leave New Orleans. He enjoyed staying at the farm in Kansas with Curt's Mom and shooting his guns, riding the ATV and hanging out in nature.
Services are Saturday, March 1, 2014 starting at 1:00PM in the chapel at Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Memorial Park & Mortuary. Casual attire please. Please join us afterwards for a reception at the mortuary where we will enjoy his favorite, TJ style tacos.
Sandra, his mom, wrote the following:
Brandon Lee Thorpe was born on Thanksgiving Day at 12:30 p.m. November 23, 1978, at Downey Community Hospital. Sandi said she had a 8 1/2 pound Turkey that day.
He grew up in Lakewood, went to Valley Christian Jr. High and Mayfair High School.
He and his Dad, Ron joined Indian Guides. They were Big Feather and Little Feather. What fun they had together, and made lots of friends, some which are here today.
He loved skateboarding, surfing, going to concerts, playing the guitar, wasn't a good singer - but he still sang and lately he was into guns and shooting rifles.
His first job was bus boy at Monteray Bay Cannery Restaurant in Cerritos. Then he got a job at Baker Commodies with Gary Equitz as a clean out man, very smelly and oily work.
His last job was for HB Crude, in the oil fields.
He loved Concerts, he has seen Pennywise, Glen Campbell, America, Iron Maiden, Skid Row, Bad Religion, Offspring, Slightly Stupid, Cypress Hill, Jack FM concerts, Crosby, Stills and Nash, English Beat, NOFX, Steve Miller Band and more. His last concert was Danny Elfman, performing music from his movies at the Nokia Theater in LA. He said it was an incredible performance.
Brandon enjoyed a good dry-aged steak, nice single barrel whiskey, pho, Sushi, Vietnamese egg rolls, mac & cheese and the Tacos were going to have after the service.
In his earlier years his family camped a lot, so he loved road trips. Last year he and Curtis rented a 34 foot RV, drove nearly 6,000 miles through California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Kansas. He wanted to do that again this year
He loved to tease people, his sisters, nieces, Mom, friends, and so forth. He had a natural ability for teasing, too bad that couldn't be a job - Learn to Tease.
He was always up for a good time, whether it was with his friends at a party, his Mom for dinner and a show, or his girlfriend Goya just playing his guitar and talking.
He valued his friendships with everyone and would help those that needed it at the drop of a hat. He was well loved by everyone and will be missed greatly.
"Bro Hymn"
To all my friends, present past and beyond
Especially those who weren't with us too long
Life is the most precious thing you can lose
While you were here the fun was never ending
Laugh a minute was only beginning
Canton, Colvin, Nichols, this one's for you
Ever get the feeling you can't go on
Just remember whose side it is that you're on
You've got friends with you till the end
If you're ever in a tough situation
We'll be there with no hesitation
Brotherhood's our rule we cannot bend
When you're feeling too close to the bottom
You know who it is you can count on
Someone will pick you up again
We can conquer anything together
All of us are bonded forever
If I die you die that's the way it is
To all my friends, present past and beyond
To all those who weren't with us too long
Life is the most precious thing you can lose
While you were here the fun was never ending
Laugh a minute was only the beginning
Canton, Colvin, Nichols, this one's for you
