

Carl Carter passed away Friday the 29th of August at approximately 4:30 in the afternoon. His passing was peaceful and occurred at a Kaiser Permanente Hospital with medical staff attending to his needs. He had suffered from a heart attack after having surgery and had gone into a coma.
Carl leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Sue, and his 39 year old son, Scott. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Connor and Kathleen, 14 and 11 respectfully, and whose mother was his Daughter, Tami, who passed away a year ago. They reside in St. Clair, Pennsylvania. Carl was a Vietnam Veteran and had served in the Air Force for 6 years during the 70’s. He served in Vietnam and Thailand during the war and afterwards in the States teaching.
Carl was born January10th, 1948 in Springfield, IL. He was one of three children born to Carl L. Carter II and his wife, Carolyn. He had older twin brothers, Bill and Bob. He grew up and attended school there. He was 66 years old when he passed and had been working part time, easing into retirement. He planned to retire in April of next year.
He was an Alumni of Northwestern, the University of Colorado, and UC Santa Barbara. He had a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Colorado, preparing to become a medical doctor after his war experience in Vietnam. After his son, Scott was born, he wanted more time at home and switched his final studies to earn a Computer Engineering Degree. At graduation from the University of Colorado, he was awarded membership in Phi Beta Kappa.
Carl worked for EMI in Chicago, IL in the early development of the CAT scanner. Returning stateside, after the war, he had taught missiles first in the Air Force and after discharge at civilian jobs. He worked for Litton Industries, Cal Microwave, Allen Osborne Associates, and his final employment was in Orange County at Conexant where his department was acquired by SIRF and later by CSR.
In 1978, Carl had moved his family to California, where he and his wife, Sue raised their family in Newbury Park, in Ventura County. Their activities and friends were from the Thousand Oaks area which included Newbury Park.
Carl loved his work and had many friendships in the GPS field. In 1999 he landed his dream job, supporting customers and teaching GPS all over the world. He felt he ended up in a wonderful place, Orange County, where he resided in Costa Mesa.
Carl was an organ donor and he made life possible for many recipients. He was a wonderful man, and led a very good life. He will be sorely missed.
Services were held at Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Memorial Park and Mortuary on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 11:00AM
