Daniel Torres was born February 11, 1938, in Managua, Nicaragua to Adonis and Ana Torres. He emigrated with his family in 1954, arriving in San Francisco, CA, where his jobs ranged from bicycle messenger to strawberry picker, helping to support his family while attending City College. He served with pride and honor in the US Army from 1963-1967, stationed in Germany, patrolling the border during the height of the Cold War.
Daniel met the love of his life, Maria Belma Leyton, in 1967 and soon married her, marking the beginning of his primary life passion. He earned dual Bachelors Degrees in Math and Physics, and along with a Masters in Philosophy, degrees which were mere symbols of his other passion: a deep love of learning and his search for knowledge. He worked as a loyal and dedicated Boeing employee for more than 30 years, where he was proud of his role serving the company’s achievements in aerospace and space travel.
While he embraced America’s cultural touchstones of blues, early rock-n-roll, and burgers -- he also maintained his Nicaraguan taste for music and food….with baseball as the bridge between the two countries. Daniel and Maria lived in Costa Mesa for 42 years, where they opened their doors and beds to countless strangers, friends, and family, sharing laughter, fellowship, music, and food.
He is survived by Maria; his children Manuel and Carmen Maria; grandchildren Kyo, Kyra, Sebastian, and Luca; and his two sisters Argentina and Lucy.
Love of Maria and family. Duty and dedication to work and country. Pursuit of knowledge.
