Dennis Duane Reinholt was born in rural Centerville, SD on August 5, 1933 to Howard and Leona (Crawford) Reinholt. He passed away July 12, 2022 at the age of 88 years and 11 months quietly at home with his wife. He attended grade school in a rural one room school near Wakonda, SD. He started 1st grade with Robert Young and graduated 8th grade with Robert Young, the only two students in that class. He started high school in Irene, SD but then his parents moved to rural Viborg, SD and he graduated from Viborg High School in 1951. After graduation he helped his father farm but also went to work with J. Gustafson Construction Co.
On February 14, 1957 he married his wife, JoAnn Carolyn Voog in Beresford, SD. They made their first home in Sioux Falls, SD as Dennis went to work for Terrace Park Dairy. In 1959 they moved to a farm in rural Viborg so that Dennis could help his father farm but after a trip to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena the winter of 1959, Dennis and JoAnn decided the lure of the orange blossoms and warm weather brought them to California in 1962, with their two children, daughter Kathy Jean Reinholt and son, Dale Alan Reinholt , they settled in Orange, CA. Dennis was able to start working for Consoldated Rock Products, later name was changed to ConRock, a company that he stayed with until his retirement on March 9, 1989. About a year later, they found and purchased a home in Costa Mesa, CA. where they raised their family. During his working years, Dennis and his wife started buying rental properties, something they both enjoyed, putting their kids to work with painting, gardening and other jobs they could do. Dennis retired at 50 to take care of their properties and his wife retired a year later, they purchased their 3rd motor home in 2003 and did a lot of traveling in the US. Having driven a truck for most of his life, handling a 40 foot RV was easy for him in the crazy traffic in California and elsewhere.
Dennis loved the Lord and though he was quiet about his faith, he lived it daily and raised his children to also love the Lord and for that blessing we all know that “absent from the body, present with the Lord” is a reality that we all cherish. As the years went by, Dennis was much more vocal about his faith, loved praise songs and sang them until the end. Dennis loved his family very much, from his very first grandchild, Heather to his last great-grandchild, Deklynn. We took our children and grandchildren with us on several trips especially back to South Dakota to spend time on the farm with their grandparents. They each still have a love of South Dakota because of those trips. They enjoyed going to the Viborg Danish Days as they knew that was their grandpa’s heritage and loved that he made Ableskeivers for them every Christmas morning. A family tradition that will continue on.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 65 years, JoAnn Voog Reinholt, his daughter, Kathy (Dick) Wagner and son, Dale Reinholt, six grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Carter, Grant (Brooke) Wagner, Emily (Connor) Hedrick , Laura (Craig) Pearcy, Derek Reinholt and Melody Reinholt.
