My memories of Karen began when she was a young wife and new Jew by Choice at the Long Beach JCC. She embraced Judaism with a whole heart and a vibrant enthusiasm. I still use her recipe for hummus. Curt, may your memories of Karen soothe your sorrow and bring you to an eventual peace. She was a lovely person.

I miss you Karen.  Your spirit and zest for life was so invigorating.  Our lunches together were always filled with such laughter, stories, wine, good conversation, and sharing.  I miss you Karen.  You were such a special friend.  One of my first "California" friends since moving to California.  Your love for Curt and for Shoshanah and Joshua were always present and such an inspiration and blessing.  Your laugh still resonates, as does your smile.  I miss you Karen.  May your memory always be a Blessing and a source of strength and comfort and spirit.

I met Karen at my part-time job, and she taught me how to use the fundraising computer package. In between bits of gossip and advice on entering data, we would share our interests in sewing, growing things, and cooking. She always was experimenting - much more adventurous than I! I still cannot believe she's not whipping up some gourmet meal or thinking of how to exactly use some item she harvested from her garden. But I believe that when we leave this place, we leave traces of ourselves within others, and Karen certainly deeply touched a number of family members and friends. They will carry her with them into the future.

Like your many CRA/LA friends I was shocked and saddened to learn of Karen's premature passing.  The two of you always seemed inseparable, and certainly enjoyed a full, active, and purposeful life together.  I remember well Karen's periodic visits to our office with your then very young daughter and son in tow.  May you and your fine family be blessed with comfort, strength, understanding and peace at this most difficult time , and may fond memories of Karen nourish your thoughts always.

I am so saddened by your loss.  It seems like just the other day we were talking about you and Karen attending Boot Camp and your trips to Indonesia.  I am glad for your many happy memories.  May they comfort you durring this difficult time and bring you joy when you think of them in the future.

Karen was an amazing woman, whose memory will be cherished by you, your children and the larger community.  Everyone who knew her was touched her unique gifts of warmth and generosity.  We are thinking of you and conveying strength that you may continue strength to strength as Karen would want for all of you.  Be glad for those gifts she bestowed and you enjoyed, and know that her greatest value is the love she brought to your world.  I know you will continue to share her gift of love as your light continues to burn brightly.

I had the opportunity to meet Karen when our children were part of the Downtown Los Angeles arts-based summer camp,CityLife.  My condolences to Curt and her children, Shoshanna and Jeff.

I've known Karen my entire life. One of my earliest memories was of her marriage to Curtis... and part of me has always seen her as she was that day: Happy and Loved.

She was a light in the dark, who will be missed.

Karen was a wonderful mother to her family and those around her. Her and her family have always been there for me as far back as I can remember. The Gibbs family has always been very important and close to me and it is so hard to hear that they have suffered this loss. My condolences to those who are left with this loss, and my thoughts and prayers to help with closure in these sad times.

My wife, Carrie, was Karen's college roommate while they both attended Long Beach State. From all accounts, they got along really well as roommates and had a lot in common. I first met Karen while they attended Long Beach State. One of my earliest and fondest memories of Karen was when she prepared a wonderful French dinner (Coq au Vin accompanied with Pouilly Fuisse wine to be precise) for Carrie and I. This was in the early 70's when none of us had much money and preparing a proper French meal was not something one would take for granted then. Clearly, Karen's life long interest in good food had much foundation. Over the years we kept in touch but raising families and other interests kept us apart until a year or so ago and then all of this. Through Karen, a photograph Carrie had taken of Joni Mitchell at a 70's concert was used in a book about her. That meant a lot to Carrie. Karen's passing is just too sad for words and I can only express my deepest sympathies to Curt and the rest of the family. I will miss Karen's great sense of humor, laughter, passion for her family, good food, traveling, and pithy comments on my FB posts.
