

Sheila Eleanor Mendelsohn passed away peacefully on February 7th, 2025, surrounded by her children. Sheila was born in New York on October 8th, 1937, to Sydney and Lillian Galvin. While attending college, Sheila met and married the love of her life Harry Mendelsohn. They moved to California and embarked on what would be a lifelong adventure of raising a family and living life to the fullest. Sheila and Harry were married for over 61 years.
Sheila enjoyed many hobbies during her life. Playing mahjong was one of her favorite things to do. She rarely missed her weekly game. Baking was a passion for Sheila. She could bake almost anything and enjoyed learning new recipes. Everyone loved her baked goods and would look forward to events where she would bring everyone’s favorites. Sheila will also be remembered for her extensive cookbook collection.
Not many people could knit like Sheila. Her family and friends were the recipients of beautiful works of art. She was very generous with her gift of knitting, making extraordinary things that will be passed down from generation to generation.
Books were also a very big part of Sheila’s life. She was an avid reader and loved making a cup of tea and settling in with a good book.
Sheila was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful sister and a kindhearted aunt. She made lifelong friends that became family. Sheila will be remembered for her kindness and the way she made everyone feel loved.
Sheila is preceded in death by her husband Harry, her sister Anita, and her lifelong friends Lily and Bernice. She is survived by her son Jay (Susie), daughter Lisa (Dave) and her grandchildren Travis, Katie, Aaron, Andrew and Allie. She is also survived by her sister Iris (Rich), nieces Dara, Tracie, Dorie, Jill, and nephew Todd.
