

Bui Thorlacius passed away on June 27th, 2017 in the Hospice at the Views in Comox after a dignified battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Born in Winnipeg, MB on February 6th, 1935, Bui was an only child and is predeceased by his father, Bui Sr. and mother, Jona (Sigurdson). He will be deeply missed by his wife of 53 yrs, Lois, their children- Kelly (Todd) Phillips, Korri, Greig, Jeff (Sairoz), and Chris (Lora), grandchildren- Bui, Dosha, Katie, and Andrew along with new great granddaughter, Aurora, as well as extended family & friends. Bui spent his early years in an Icelandic community in Ashern, MB on the family farm. In 1943 they migrated to Richmond, BC. After graduating from UBC he became a Chartered Accountant and married Lois Andrew in 1964. A few years later they moved to Burns Lake where they had many happy memories and finally settled in the Comox Valley in 1973. Bui was in public practice and later Director of Finance for the City of Courtenay. He was active in the community including Rotary, Boy Scouts, Comox Valley Winter Carnival and Comox Valley Summer Games. In 1984 the family moved to Denman Island where Bui spent the remainder of his life enjoying the island lifestyle and time with his family. A casual gathering to celebrate Bui’s life will be held on July 15th, 2017 at 2311 Chickadee Rd, Denman Island BC from 1 to 4 pm.
