1922- 2011
Charlotte Martha Lede was born in Gruenberg, Poland on June 10, 1922 and died on her 89th birthday at Glacier View Lodge, Courtenay. At the age of 20 she married Eugene Lede in Poland and had 2 children before coming to Canada in 1948.They spent 11 years in the Fraser Valley working for several farmers and had a small dairy farm in Cloverdale. In 1959, pregnant with her fourth daughter, Charlotte and her family moved to Black Creek and started a dairy farm on Hamm Rd. where they farmed and worked very hard for many years. She faced and conquered many challenges in life. After retiring from farming she moved to Courtenay.
Charlotte was a wonderful Mother, Oma, aunt, and friend to many. Her greatest pleasure was being with her family and friends sharing her delicious meals. Her other interests included singing, gardening, and travelling extensively, spending many wonderful winters in Desert Hot Springs, California. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Predeceased by her husband Eugene in 1980, her parents Johann and Katherine Bauer, and her 5 siblings. She is survived by her four daughters Lilli Doberstein (Dieter), Inge Koschack(Werner), Alma Lyschik(Helmut),and Charlotte Schwanicke(Andy). She is also survived by eight grandchildren Fred (Teresa), Rick (Jay), Jim (Sarah) Doberstein, Karin and Bob (Corinne) Koschack, Dan Lyschik (Krissy) and Cindy (Mark) Edwards and Kristi Schwanicke, as well as 18 great-grandchildren, and extended family.
Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched in some way throughout a very memorable life. Our heartfelt thanks to the many supportive staff at Glacier View Lodge. Because of their loving and caring hands, Charlotte was able to courageously face her many limitations and greet all with a smile that could light up a room.
