David (Dave, Papa, Pop) passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025 in Comox BC at the age of 92. David was born in Wynyard Saskatchewan and spent the early part of his childhood there on the family farm. He later moved to Vancouver with his parents and his brother Robert (Bud) and sister Isobel, while his oldest brother John stayed behind to run the farm.
A skilled athlete with a competitive nature Dave participated in many sports such as baseball, lacrosse, curling and bowling: he played ice hockey into his 70s.
He loved fishing and camping and later enjoyed time spent fishing, cross country skiing and playing games at the family cabin in the Cariboo. Papa is remembered as the fiercest competitor in family volleyball games despite his arthritic knees.
Dave was an expert auto mechanic working for Dueck’s for most of his career where he was well known for his diagnostic abilities. He also repaired countless vehicles for family and friends.
David (Papa) is predeceased by his wife Patricia (Nana), his siblings John, Isobel, Robert (Bud), his great grandson Mason and his daughter in law Karen.
He is survived by his children Kathleen, James (Vivienne) and David.
Papa took so much pleasure in spending time with and celebrating the accomplishments of his grandchildren Karli (Jason), Erin, Rayna (Elise), Josh (Nolyn) and Megan and his great grandchildren Kensie, Skyler, Lewis and new baby Loryn.
“Uncle Dave” will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Views for their love and care these last 2 years.
