Donald passed away on November 14th 2015, at the age of 76.
He was as always surrounded by the love of his wife Bunnie and his loving and large family. He will be deeply missed by all the lives he touched through the many paths he walked... his school teaching profession, the friends he made and most of all by his family.
Donald married Bunnie Cornfield in Victoria on the 11th of May 1959,while living at “Romney” he completed his teachers certificate. In 1965 he moved his young family to the Comox Valley where they built their family home on Vega place, now with the three kids, Linda, Paul and John their family was complete. Donald worked at AirPort school, Union Bay school, Courtenay Elementary school, back to AirPort school and then finished his career at Valley View Elementary school.
Although retired he kept busy, Donald was the chairmen of the KinBeach Park Committee, was actively involved with Meals On Wheels and he drove with the the Vintage wheels Car Club delivering the oh so happy Grads for all three Valley high schools (he even brought Bunnie along for company or a spare driver).
If you drove down to vega place you would often find Donald tinkering in his garage, whether on his own vechile or that of family and friends, or Bunnie would have him out in the garden. The two of them were often cruising around to visit family and friends up and down the island, you did not often see one without the other.
Anyone who knew Donald knew of his love for Hot Rods and appreciation for all cars (worth appreciating)! This love of cars started at an early age, he had his first hot rod by 15 and so many more followed. He was always available to help anyone who needed a wrench, ratchet, air gun or even and ear to listen to a car problem or story. And this man always had and appreciation for a good "cooker" or a "peel out"!
Donald had one of the best gifts! this man could weave a story to keep all who were listening spellbound, with this gift and the memory that went with it he could tell stories all day long and some of them more than once.
Big family dinners were also dear to his heart, where stories were told, jokes were made, lots of food to be enjoyed and being surrronded by his loud and loving family.
Donald thought most everything through...and often made up Pro and Con lists, these lists for many things, a house, a car , a job, obtaining just about anything. Then the list would be gone over and over until both sides were weighed out, (not all involved listened to his logic) but this was how it was done.
Donald leaves behind many people who will always love him including
