MEMORIES FROM A GRANDSON
The following are Memories of Edna's Grandson, Cody Woodward, that was read at her funeral on October 5, 2010. It very much gives an idea of some parts of Edna's life and how she was so loved. Thank you Cody.
I am not much of a writer, so bare with me here. I'm going to start off with some memories that I think most everyone in this room can relate to. First of all, I've never known another Grandma, but I've never needed to. My Grandma was one of the most loving ladies I've ever known. She was stern at times, but I was young and can understand why, looking back now. Some of my most favourite moments growing up was the weeks in the Summer I spent "helping" on the old farm. I'm pretty sure almost everyone here will remember the buckets of cherries and the pails of peas every year. I can remember sitting there along side Grandma and Grandpa, picking these for everyone, probably eating half of my pickings to be fair. I remember the jars of jam and the piles of leather fruit and for some reason, they always had Teddy Grahams waiting for me. I remember doing the chores twice a day and being excited when we got a hefty gathering of chicken eggs.
I'm pretty sure everyone in this room received a pair of slippers, a hand knit sweater or 10, and if you were lucky, a blanket to match. She knit every stitch with love and you could feel it when you wore it. I think everyone received a bouquet of peacock feathers and a dream catcher. Boy, did Grandma love her crafts and court shows. I'm pretty sure she had an unofficial degree in law. Most people will remember dinners at Banners Restaurants too. I could go on all day, but basically what I'm getting at is that we all had some wonderful memories with Grandma and instead of being sad, I'm going to remember the amazing legacy my Grandma is leaving behind. Rest Peacefully Grandma and I hope to see you again one day.
Now I have a short poem I would like to read for you all by an Unknown Author.
God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you,
and whispered, "come to me."
You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best
And when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.
