Eleanor Keller (née Richter) passed away at her beloved home in Merville, BC just three days before her 85th birthday. She was born on April 28, 1932 at the newly built St Joseph's Hospital in Comox, BC.
Eleanor will be lovingly remembered by her children Lorne (Pam) of Comox, Lynn (Dan) of Ottawa and granddaughter Morgan of Comox. Eleanor is also survived by her cherished extended family in Canada and Germany and many close friends.
Eleanor graduated from Tsolum School in 1950 and then left the valley for the big city of Vancouver to attend Normal School. Prior to staying at home to be a mom, Eleanor was a well-loved successful teacher in Vancouver, Comox and Campbell River. In the early 1960s she became the principle at the newly established Maple School; quite the accomplishment for a woman at that time. While in Campbell River, Eleanor was a well-respected and active member of the Royal Purple of Canada and served as The Second Honoured Royal Lady.
With an amazing memory, she will truly be remembered as the historian and story teller of the family; never forgetting a birthday, anniversary or any other special event. Mom loved all the wildlife who visited, birds, squirrels, deer and even the bears. She will be sadly missed by everyone whose life she touched.
We wish to pass on a heartfelt thank you to Dr. M Neufeld and Dr. N McFadden and a very special thank you to Dr. S Hunter and all the wonderful community support team.
At her request, a private family service will be held shortly.
