After a long and healthy life, Guenther passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, at the age of 85.
Guenther was born in Dortmund, Germany. He immigrated to Canada in 1956, where he began working at Giant Mines in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. He worked there until 1983, when he retired to Courtenay on Vancouver Island where he fully enjoyed his last 30 years.
Left to mourn are his wife, Rosi, their children, with their grandchildren, Ursula (Ron) with Paulina Ross, Guenther (Viola), Irene (Robert) with Eli, Joyce (Brian) with Tyson and Travis Cole, Jimmy with Nicolas, Emmery and Sadie, and Diane (Angus); his nieces, Moni, Liesel, Gretel, and other relatives in Germany; and his many friends.
A Celebration of Life was held on October 28th, and another will follow in the summer.
