

On Jan 4th 2023 Herman Nelson Smith , loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather , brother , uncle and friend passed away peacefully at the age of 95 at Cumberland Lodge in Cumberland B.C.
Herman was born Nov. 21 1927 in Cambridge, Mass to parents Floyd and Dorothy Smith of Liverpool, Nova Scotia and he grew up in Nova Scotia.
Herman was predeceased by his wife Lauretta and is survived by his sons Paul (Charlotte),Suuqiina(Qaumaniq),his daughters Jeannette, Cyndy(Randy),several grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Herman had many interests that included fishing, hunting, camping and was happy to live in Campbell River for over 45 years because it was the salmon capital of Canada. He played thousands of hours of cribbage and loved the game. He was once the captain of a cribbage league and won trophies.
He loved his family and was a huge influence in his children and grandchildrens lives . He was always there to give support and advice when needed and had a great sense of humor. He loved telling jokes and would always start laughing midway through. He would happily give whatever he had to someone if he thought they needed it more.
He was loved by all the staff at Cumberland Lodge .He will always be lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Many thanks to Dr. Russell, the staff at Cumberland Lodge for their loving care and respect they gave to dad as well as his grieving family. There will be a memorial service in the spring with more info to follow at that time.
