Born in southern Saskatchewan Mina now joins her parents (Maggie Jane Smith and Big Jim Harvey), her siblings Margaret, Mac, Bruce, Eoin, Lillian, Archie, David and Stanley. She also joins husband Mel Putnam and son Ean Putnam.
She leaves her daughter Wanda Fields (CA), granddaughters Lyndsi (Don) and Stephanie (Cameron) along with her great grandsons Zander and Finley. Her stepchildren David (June) Gordon (Marguerite) and Sarena (David) also feel her loss.
Mina was known for her kindness and generosity like delivered Meals on Wheels for 20 years along with her wicked sense of humour.
Her life was not easy being widowed at 32 years old with two wee kids but she always said “If you don’t laugh, you cry, and I’d rather laugh”. So she did. She was a strong and independent woman.
She was a true teacher in her heart and influenced many students and parents along the way. She will be missed by many.
A large bouquet of gratitude to Eden Gardens for their fabulous care of mom for the last 5.5 years. The staff guided mom and us through the trials of dementia and were full of kindness and love right to the end.
In lieu of flowers we would be grateful for any donation in mom’s name to Eden Gardens in Nanaimo.
