Passed away peacefully at her home in Comox on May 22, 2025, at the age of 91. Rita was born and raised in Melville, Saskatchewan, and moved to Cranbrook at age 16 with her parents and beloved brother, Gerry. She graduated from nursing school in Victoria in 1956 and went on to live a life of dedication, care, and love. As the devoted wife of military husband John Frederick, Rita embraced the adventure of moving across Canada, raising their family with grace and strength along the way. In 1976, they settled in Kelowna, where Rita continued her work in healthcare with Interior Health and later enjoyed a well-earned retirement.
A woman of deep faith and even deeper love for her family, Rita was the heart of many cherished traditions. Her warmth and nurturing spirit touched everyone who knew her, especially her children—Karen, Jean, Ann-Therese, Patrick and Robert—her 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored beyond words. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John and her son Patrick, and her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration.
Rita shared an especially close bond with her brother Gerry, whose presence remained a lifelong blessing. Her sense of humor, quick wit, and joyful laugh brought light to every room. Whether playing cards (she was a card shark), dancing with joy, or baking treats for those she loved, Rita lived a life full of grace, generosity, and sparkle.
Rita will be laid to rest with her husband in Kelowna. A service of remembrance may be held in Kelowna at a later date.
