Rudy’s Life Story
Rudy’s Dad came from Hungary and his Mom was a Dutch Jew. He always said that made him a hungry dutch man with a big nose. He had a great sense of humour and loved to see others laugh and be happy.
He was born in Campbell River in 1958, the 2nd child of 4 children. Maggie, Rudy, Terry and Fred, all around 2 years apart. Rudy was around 6 years old when his parents bought a house with property on Headquarters Rd in Courtenay. They farmed the land growing gardens and raising animals. Lots of chores to be done on a farm and all the children learned so much in their young years.
Rudy wanted a horse but it didn’t happen. They had lots of pigs and Rudy decided to take a big one he named Moses, trained him and successfully rode him down 5th street in a Canada Day parade when he was around 10 years old.
The Triller family were all musical and formed a family band. They played at the Diners Island, senior homes etc. Rudy played the trombone. He joined the Sea Cadets when he was 12 and became part of their band. He did a solo ‘76 Trombones’ on the first record album they ever produced.
Rudy’s parents separated when he was 14. He left home a few months later. His journey took him to Victoria, San Francisco, New York and Toronto. He had lost contact with his family and it was while living in Toronto when his Mom reached out and found him. He came back to the Island feeling like he was coming home. It was February 1978 and the Daffodils were blooming.
He stayed in Sayward for a couple years where his Mom was living at the time before moving back to the Comox Valley. It was spring 1980 where he met the love of his life and true soul mate Debbie. Rudy and Debbie married August 7, 1981
Rudy was pursuing carpentry work and became very good at building. He was a natural and very creative.
They began their family with the arrival of their firstborn son Rick in the summer of 1982 and 2nd son Mike arrived early 1985. Rudy was a very hands on Dad and truly enjoyed his boys. He continued to pursue work that he was able to be home with the family. He was determined not to have to work away from home.
It was summer of ‘85 when he felt God calling him and he surrendered to Jesus. He became involved in the church community. He was worship leader for many years. He loved to help others and was a better man because of his faith.
In 2001 Rudy was blessed with a ticket to India for a missions trip. It changed the way he saw the world. He said “unless you can smell it and hear it and feel it, a picture won’t cut it. You have to experience it. He also could kiss the ground when he got back to Canada. It was quite an eye opener for him.
It was in 1985 when he got into house demolition because there was hardly any building happen. He became know in the Comox Valley as the Demolition Man and also the Handyman. He learned to recycle in a big way. Instead of crunching up a house and throwing it into the landfill, he could salvage about 70% that others could reuse.
He was also a great handyman to a lot of folks around the Comox Valley and Campbell River. People would wait for him because they trusted him. He was a man of integrity. It really bothered him when people were taken advantage of.... especially seniors!
In 1999 He had the privilege of meeting his daughter, Joanna who at the time was 20 and 7 months pregnant with twins. She was conceived while living in Sayward and given up for adoption with Love and hopes of a good life. Rudy and Debbie had always told their boys that they had a sister.
Rudy and Debbie have grown closer with Joanna and family even more over the last few years.
Rudy built 12 tiny homes over the years starting before it became a big thing. He saw the need earlier on. He made himself some work and some people very happy with his cute west coast style Rudibuilt mini homes.
He had a love for classic cars and was able to enjoy a few in his lifetime. He liked meeting friends for morning coffee time at Timmy’s. He was in love with his new dog named Shiloh...meaning Heavenly Peace.
Rudy was living his dream.... his best life. Together with his true love for 43 years and still maintained a deep commitment to each other and their family. He was truly proud of his sons and was quite happy to see their skills surpass his. That would make him smile.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and lean not to your own understanding
in all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5&6
