We did not notified everyone of the death of Anna M Siler on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, because the exact time and schedule of her funeral events were not set. The Mortuary and Rectory were closed Tuesday afternoon, all day Wednesday (New Years Day), & half day Thursday. The funeral plans were not finalized until this morning.
The Rosary will be 7:00 pm on Friday 1-10-14 at Custer-Christiansen Mortuary Chapel at 124 S. Citrus Ave., Covina, CA 91723. This is less than 1 mile from Grandma's home. Visitation (open casket) will start at 5:00 pm. Testimonials will occur after the Rosary at 7:00 pm. The Rosary will be led by Angie Felton, a neighbor, who prayed the last Rosary at Grandma's bedside. By 8:30 pm we should close the doors.
The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Saturday 1-11-14 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 144 W. Workman St. Covina, CA. (Grandma's backyard gate opens onto the Church parking lot.) IInternment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery at 444 E. Lexington Ave., Pomona, CA 91766.
The Cemetery is about 12 miles away. Take the I-10 east to Towne Ave. go south to Lexington (about 4 miles), turn right (west) & enter at the first entrance on Lexington on the right. The "old" section occupies the NW corner of Towne and Lexington (entrance is only on Lexington). If you use the 71, it's shorter, but involves more streets & turns.
There will be an Anna Marie Siler Reception at the nearby Villa Tepeyac Restaurant after the Funeral Mass. It will start at 12:00 pm. This was Grandma's favorite Restaurant. We've had many parties there.
Incidentally, the Villa Tepeyac brothers Sean, Miguel, & Ismael have agreed to give Grandma special prices and services.
Many may choose not to go to the Cemetery. Instead they will go directly to the Reception. The Villa Tepeyac Restaurant will support the early arrivals. The Villa Tepeyac will have: margaritas, wine, beer, soft drinks and chips & salsa starting at 11:45 am. Grandma's beloved Mexican buffet luncheon will be served at 1:30 pm, after the return of those who choose to go to the Cemetery. This is Grandma's gift to us.
Villa Tepeyac Restaurant is located at 2200 E Garvey South, West Covina, CA 91790 (It is SE of where I-10 and Hollenbeck meet, though Hollenbeck has no off-ramp. It is 1/2 way between Citrus and Azusa.
The Villa Tepeyac Reception will continue to 4:00 pm. Grandma wants everyone to celebrate her heavenly welcome. For the first time in 58 years she is with her husband, my dad, Joseph Horace Siler. And there will be lots of angels around. Damien Siler will be there too.
Grandma has become a saint.

Dear Family & Others:
Grandma quietly passed away early this morning (Tuesday 12-31-13). With the exception of one day, she had declined each day. She was not in pain. She is now at peace. Grandma received the Anointing of the Sick on Sunday.
Grandma had a lot visitors yesterday (Monday). She smiled as she recognized each of them. She knew they had come to say goodbye. Grandma could no longer talk. Ken Siler and Kira flew in from Northern California. Cathy Siler and Julie Templeton drove down from Northern California. Matthew Siler, Suzanne, & their kids: Colin and Hayden stopped by. Grandma's friend Marie Nolan and her daughters Barbara & Marjorie came by too.
Grandma had some telephone calls. Among them, Dr. Dick Smith called. He lived at Grandma's house for a year during his internship. John Siler called, as he did every day. We put the phone to Grandma's ear. She could recognize their voices.
It looks like Grandma's Funeral will be at Sacred Heart Church in Covina at 10:00 am on Saturday 1-11-14. (Grandma's backyard gate opens onto the church parking lot.)
Grandma leaves a wonderful legacy. That legacy is her family. She was extremely proud of her family. And Grandma imparted her values to them.
Grandma was born 1-9-16 in Bozeman Montana. She was nearly 98. Grandma was widowed at age 39 with 6 kids and little money. She accomplished much. Four kids have doctoral level degrees, 1 College & 1 Business College. And all 6 have her values. Not Bad ! Grandma helped others. And she instilled her values. She was really a great woman ! She will be missed but her values will live on.
Joe Siler
