

Joseph L. Corral was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Joseph will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Joseph was born on December 19, 1927 in Redondo Beach, California. He was the son of Leopoldo and Maria. Joseph grew up in Redondo Beach, California.
Joseph was raised with five siblings. He had one older brother, Leo, three older sisters, Luli, Margaret and Henrietta and one younger brother, Henry. Joseph was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
On July 11, 1948 Joseph exchanged wedding vows with Gloria Chavez Fimbres in Los Angeles, California. Empathic and loyal, Joseph was committed to making his new family happy.
Joseph worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Joseph was blessed with five children, three sons, Louis, Michael and Phillip and two daughters, Ramona and Jeannie. Another blessing for Joseph was the gift of ten grandchildren, Tara, Jason, Stephanie, Jessica, Joseph, Christian, Heather, Jacqueline, Paige and Jonathan.
Joseph was a Navy veteran. He was on the USS CAHABA AO-32. Joseph saw action for WWII. Through his hard work, he achieved the rank of Coxswain Petty Officer, 3rd Class. His fellow soldiers viewed him as a brother in arms and knew that he was as much a part of their family as their loved ones back home.
Joseph enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were filming, videography and music. He was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Joseph’s faith was important to him. He was a member St. Christopher in West Covina, California for 25 years and then Sacred Heart in Rancho Cucamonga. During that time, he was Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree.
Joseph enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included going to casinos.
When Joseph’s retirement finally arrived in 1992, he was well prepared. Even in retirement, Joseph continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Joseph was active in his new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered him.
Joseph passed away on December 3, 2011 at Upland Rehabilitation and Care Center. He is survived by his loving family. Services were held at St. Christopher Catholic Church in West Covina, California. Joseph was laid to rest in Resurrection Cemetery in Montebello, California.
Simply stated, Joseph was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Joseph leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Joseph L. Corral.
Dad was a kind, sensitive, giving and loving man. He was easy to like by anyone. He was loved by many, many people. He loved his family. He was a family man. He was a family child. He endured a lot of pain in his life, not just physical. Dad had the strength to take a lot pf pain. I cannot remember a time that he ever caused anyone any pain. Dad was a strong gentleman.
