James Monroe Felder, Jr, 79, gained his angel wings on December 31, 2021. Gifted with an amazing singing voice, we are hoping he is now singing alongside his hero, Elvis Presley. His final days were spent surrounded by his loving family. He lived life to the fullest and had many friends because he never met a stranger and spoke with just about anyone who would stop to talk. He never let his physical handicaps stop him from participating in life to the fullest and could be found on the sidelines of one of his nine grandkids’ athletic fields.. He was a baseball fanatic and had a love for the game that could not be matched. Maybe he can now meet his other hero, Mickey Mantle. Jim was born on July 23, 1942 to Marjorie Fossier Felder and James Monroe Felder in Mobile, Alabama. After Jim graduated from Alcee Fortier High School in 1960, he went on to enlist in the U.S. Naval Air Reserves. He spent two years in active duty at the NAB in Pensacola, FL and four years in the reserves. Jim then attended Southeastern Louisiana College and earned a degree in Accounting. He was hired by Freeport Sulphur (later Freeport McMoran) after college and worked for them for 24 years. While employed by Freeport he was offered a position in Indonesia at the Freeport Indonesia Grasberg mine, giving him and his family the opportunity to travel the world. After returning from Indonesia, he became the proverbial soccer Dad traveling with his daughters to tournaments all around the south. He was an avid athlete in his own right, playing baseball at Southeastern and softball in his adult years after college. His love of sports never wained and he spent hours traveling to and supporting his nine grandchildren in their athletic endeavors. He owned t-shirts, hats, and sweatshirts from each team they played for so that he could represent appropriately on the sideline. If he couldn’t see well enough from the wheelchair section of the stadium, he would find his way onto the field to get a closer view. He was a parishioner of St. Anselm church in Madisonville. He met the love of his life, Brenda Jordan, in Panama City Beach, Florida during spring break in 1967 and they were married 3 months later in Hammond, Louisiana. Married for over 54 years, Jim is survived by Brenda and daughters Paige Felder Henderson, Yvette Felder Oxford, and Colleen Felder Weimer and their husbands Steve Henderson, Tillman Oxford and Patrick Weimer; Grandchildren Davin Henderson and Fiance Rebecca Braun, Stevie Henderson and husband Rafael Wagner, Jack Henderson, Rex Henderson, Parker Oxford, Brendan Oxford, Allison Weimer, Matthew Weimer, and Blake Weimer. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Felder, his wife Jan Felder and their children Katie Felder, Kelly Barrios and husband Chet, and Michael Felder. He is also survived by nieces Kasey Courtney, Dawn Lenox, Holly Keenum and nephew Shane Keenum. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie and James, and sister Shirley. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend to Mass of Christian Burial at GRACE FUNERAL HOME, 450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 12:00 noon. Visitation will begin at 10:00 in the morning. Interment will follow in Felders Cemetery, Summit, Mississippi. An online guestbook is available at www.gracenorthshore.com.
