She was the beloved grandmother of Alyssa Bourgeois, Julia Reuther, Madeline Barré, Carl Barré (deceased), Samantha Smith, and Kelly Pounds, and a proud great-grandmother who cherished her great-grandboys, Brady Bourgeois, Bryce Bourgeois, Jamie Reuther, Casey Reuther, and Adrian Reuther. She is also survived by a host of in-laws and nieces and nephews.
Joan was proceeded in death by her parents, Claude J. Waguespack, Sr. and Eva B. Waguespack; her sisters Lelia Schexnayder, and Eva Mae Burch, and her brother Claude “Bubby” Waguespack, Jr.
Joan was born in New Orleans, LA, and moved to Vacherie, LA, at age 5, where she resided through her high school years at St. James High School. After high school, she moved back to New Orleans with her husband, attended comptroller school, and worked for Esso Standard Oil (Exxon). She moved to Metairie, LA, and started her family in 1955. When her youngest son started school in 1965, she began work as an optometrist assistant. It was not until she started making carnival ball arrangements at Kraak Florist Shop near her home, that her love of flowers developed. That love of flowers blossomed into a 40-year career as a licensed Floral Designer.
Joan was an active member of St. Benilde Chers Amis and St. Rita’s Silver Trotters. She and Carl were avid antique collectors and members of the Creole Chapter #43 of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors Club. She was also a charter member of the National World War II Museum, in honor of her husband, who was a WW II veteran.
Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Covington, LA, on Thursday, June 5, 2025. Visitation at church will begin at 11:00am until Mass begins at 12:00pm. Interment will be private in the Garden Catacomb Memorial Mausoleum at St. Phillip Cemetery in Vacherie, LA, where she will join her husband Carl, and grandson Carl, in eternal rest.
Joan enjoyed flowers while she was living, and in lieu of flowers for her, requests that you send flowers to a loved one instead, in her memory. Mass offerings would also be appreciated.
