Karen Goodin Seals

After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer over many years, Karen Goodin Seals, 81, was called home on February 20, 2025, by her savior, Jesus Christ, where she rejoined her beloved Larry, who had been awaiting her arrival since November 2009.

Karen was born on August 5, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Elizabeth Marshall Goodin and Gerald Cea Goodin. As a child, she was perpetually in motion, participating in theater, choir, majorettes, and cheerleading. During her sophomore year of high school, Karen started dating the love of her life Larry Seals. They later attended the University of Tennessee and married on May 21, 1963.

Karen and Larry shared a beautiful, fulfilling marriage that lasted 46 years, ending only with Larry’s passing in 2009. Together, they built a wonderful life and raised three children: Kelly Seals Dubroc (Eric), Stacey Seals Stinson (Shayne), and Robert Seals. In addition to being a devoted mother, Karen, experienced boundless joy in her role as “Wam,” grandmother to Mia Dubroc Cowan (Ethan), Joel Dubroc, Landry Stinson, Aleena Seals, Marshall Seals, and Mark Seals. She relished each opportunity to support her grandchildren, attending every possible event with an infectious smile and love. She also leaves behind her beloved younger brother Rich Goodin and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Karen cherished traveling, particularly because it allowed for quality time with Larry, her children, grandchildren, and many friends. She explored the world with curiosity and marveled at God’s creations. She especially loved Estes Park, Colorado, where she maintained a second home for many decades, allowing her to surround herself with dear friends and family. Always active, she enjoyed hiking, fly fishing, horseback riding and sharing the beauty of the mountains of Colorado, which she held so close to her heart.

Back home in Louisiana, Karen made a lasting impact by starting the first Bible Study Fellowship class in the Greater New Orleans area in 1992. A dedicated scholar of the Bible, she taught and inspired hundreds of women across all denominations. A Godly woman, Karen maintained a lifelong devotion to her Christian faith, sharing God’s love with everyone around her, both in deed and word, always leading by example. She lived for truth, embraced righteousness, and lived with unceasing integrity. She touched the lives of many and she will be deeply missed by those who loved her. She was the guiding force in our lives, and while we grieve her loss, we take solace in knowing she has been reunited with her beloved Larry in their eternal home.

A memorial service will be held at The Chapel at First Baptist Church of Covington, 16054 Murphy Road Covington 70433 on Thursday, March 6th. Friends and family are invited to gather from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with the memorial service beginning at 11:00 AM. A celebration of her life will follow at The Southern Hotel, 428 E Boston Street, Covington, Louisiana.
