Albert was born on June 9, 1931 in Craig, Colorado. He was raised in the white house on the corner of 6th and Taylor Street along with his three older brothers: Jim, Bob, and John. He graduated from Moffat County High School in 1950 and went to Fort Collins where he attended Colorado A & M. There he lived with his best friends Lou Wyman and Neil McCandless. Along the way, they gained Doug Wellman. After college he enlisted in the Army as a Radio Repairman, he spent 2 years and then returned home and joined the family business Shepherd & Sons Plumbing & Heating. He worked there and was an owner until he sold it in 2014 at the age of 83.
He might have retired from the business but not from all other activities. Al joined the Jaycees in 1964, then Craig Lions Club for 55 years and the Elks as a lifetime member. American Legion for 36 years where he was a big part of the Honor Guard and sold pull tabs at bingo every other Sunday. The CAPS board for 30 years, and on the Wyman Museum Board. One of his favorite things was to be on American Pickers Show with his bestie Lou Wyman.
Al was well known for his work ethic, his volunteering, and his big smile. If questions arose about Craig and surrounding areas-he was the go to person for answers. He lived a very full, busy and wonderful life. Al loved to travel and always found new friends during those excursions. He is survived by his children Kristi and Shawn (Laura); His older brother John who is 96, nieces and nephews; brother-in-laws Bruce (Barb), Doug (Bette), and sister-in-law Sandy; preceded in death by his wife Zan, son Mark, brothers Jim and Bob. Dad rest in peace with mom and we love you lots.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Craig Cemetery. A reception will follow at The Wyman Museum.
