Christine Lee Cobb Stocks, passed away July 10, 2022, at her home in Savery, Wyoming, with her family and close friends by her side. She fought long and hard until the end with her battle of pancreatic cancer.
Christy was born March 22, 1957 in Craig, Colorado to Tom and Rusena Cobb. Christy attended elementary school at the Savery School in Savery, then middle and high school at Little Snake River Valley School in Baggs. Christy attended the University of Wyoming. Later in life, Christy received her Associates Degree from Western Wyoming Community College.
Christy married her high school sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Stocks, on March 4, 1978. They made their home in Savery. Christy and Bob have three children, Bo, Kody and Stacy.
Soon after marriage, Christy became the school librarian at the LSRV school in Baggs. A few years later, Christy and her best friend Denise Vandas opened their own bakery in Baggs. As her family grew, Christy decided to dedicate her time while her children were young to being a stay-at-home mom. Once her children were school age, Christy served as a substitute teacher at the Little Snake River Valley School, spending the days near her children. Christy went on to work with Project Reach as a speech therapist, where she helped numerous students enhance their language skills. In the 1990’s, Christy continued her service of students as she became the Little Snake River Valley Outreach Education Coordinator through Western Wyoming Community College. For almost 30 years she worked with all ages, infants through senior citizens coordinating activities and learning experiences and serving her community. Christy loved this job and continued her work there despite her treatment schedule.
Christy has always loved her community and was always quick to volunteer or advocate for advancements of the Little Snake River. Throughout her life, Christy founded many programs for the residents of the Valley. In 1982, she took over the swimming lesson program to ensure the kids of the Valley learned basic water survival techniques. She has always been a hard-working member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Dixon. Christy taught Sunday school for many years and then was the founder and leader of Amazing River Kids (ARK) a non-denominational, Christian outreach program for elementary age kids for around 20 years. Christy taught many kids how to sew for 4-H and has been the Carbon County 4-H sewing superintendent for many years. She was a founding member of the Little Rascals Preschool and helped secure funding for and oversee construction of their new building in 2014. Christy was also a founding member of the Snake River Press. She was a founding member of the Assisted Care Facility (ACF) where she helped realize their dream of bringing homemaker and transportation services to Valley seniors. Her dream for the ACF has always been to have senior housing in the Valley, a project which is becoming a reality. Christy brought back the yearly Community BBQ and added the Peruvian soccer tournament in Savery. Christy started the Camp Peak elementary summer camp in 2009, a summer camp that is still active for children today. Christy’s accomplishments for the Valley have changed lives and her presence and volunteer work will be missed by many.
Christy’s family has always been very important to her. Her three kids married and settled in the Valley, and between them all, she had nine wonderful grandchildren. Christy adored her grandchildren and always said how blessed she was to have them all live so close to home. In her words, she ‘had the very best nine grandchildren that anyone could have’. Christy took time for all of her grandchildren, helping them with 4-H sewing, art projects and ensuring they had wonderful memories with each other at Grandma’s house.
Christy’s mottos were “Life is Good” and “Be Nice.” She worked hard to ensure that she helped others achieve good lives. Before her passing, she found an article in a magazine and highlighted part of it. It said, “Happy people have certain behaviors. They’re active, they’re socially engaged, they have good relationships and are involved in their communities. If they want to do something, they don’t worry that it’s going to take too much effort or be too stressful. They’re persistent. What we found is that happiness is what you get when you live a thriving life.” This statement fits Christy perfectly.
Christy is survived by her husband, Robert Stocks; her 3 children and their spouses, Bo (Kristen) Stocks, Kody (Codey) Stocks and Stacy (Brandon) Perry; her grandchildren, Katelyn and Colt Stocks; Kaylee, Kooper, Keegan and Kyson Stocks; and Kash, Kase and Nike Perry; her parents, Tom and Rusty Cobb; her mother-in-law Agnes Stocks; her siblings, Cindy Cobb and Jack (Diana) Cobb; sister-in-law Shirley (Richard Galusha) Stocks; nieces and nephews, Corby Cobb and Brice Reid; Ashley Dishman and family, Jacquelyn Harvey and family, Tyson Cobb and family; her aunt Marilyn Gilroy, numerous cousins and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Russell and Zelma Ellis and John and Marie Cobb; her father-in-law Frank Stocks and her uncles Donnie Ellis and Russell Dale Ellis, and aunt Claudia Herold.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Christy Stocks Community Scholarship Fund, PO Box 220, Savery, WY 82332.
