Doris Graham

Doris Louise (Rue) Graham, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away in the early hours of March 9, 2022, at the age of 88. She passed peacefully in her sleep at her home in Grand Junction, CO, with her family by her side.

Born January 3, 1934, in Lovington, New Mexico, she was the daughter of the late Merle (Renfro) Rue and Russell Rue. Doris was also very close to her stepfather, Richard Eby. She lived in Amarillo, TX until she was 13, then moved to Mt. Harris, CO, and married Loren Rutherford on December 3, 1949, at the age of 15. She lived in Craig, CO until 2003, when she married Jim Graham, and moved to Fruita, CO.

Doris was employed in the laundry/dry cleaning business for many years, and in the hospitality business in later years, where she retired from her position as a Supervisor at the Holiday Inn in Craig, CO in 2003.

She was an active member of her local church, and enjoyed serving in numerous ministries throughout her life. Her faith was the foundation on which she lived her life, and she was ready to go home and meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Doris was an active and caring woman who spent most of her life thinking about others. She enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, and gardening, but surrounded herself with friends and family, which is where she felt most comfortable and loved. Hosting family events brought her a tremendous amount of joy. She was also an avid reader, enjoyed traveling to new places, and had a passion for learning.

She possessed an incredible amount of wisdom, had a gentle, loving, and kind heart towards others, and also had a smile on her face. She loved to laugh, and an infectious sense of humor, and never knew a stranger. She had a servant heart, adored her family, and was an adoring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Loren, husband James (Jim) Graham, brother Robert “Bob” Rue, son Stephen, daughter Karen Evanoff, and daughter Brenda Hillewaert (Leon).

She is survived by her daughter, Laura Coen (Gary), multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Her gravesides services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Craig (Fairview) Cemetery.

A second memorial service for her friends in the Grand Junction area will be held in August 2022 (date to be announced).
