

passed away peacefully at his home on January 23, 2025 in Craig Colorado surrounded by his
loved ones. He was born on October 31, 1940 to Olmedo and Lucy Archuleta.
Papa Joe was born in Rodarte NM before moving to Leadville, Colorado. His family later
relocated to Hayden Colorado where he spent many years. In 1963, he married the love of his
life Pita and Craig became their home. To this union they welcomed their two children Tammy
and Joey and began building a life rooted in hard work and devotion to his family.
Joe worked for many years at the Sawmill before transitioning to Empire Energy, where he
dedicated 15 years of hard work until his retirement in 1995. Following his time at the mine he
briefly worked at the Power Plant before retiring fully due to health concerns.
Retirement allowed Joe to embrace his love for gardening, and fishing. Above all, he cherished
spending time with his grandchildren, beginning with the arrival of his first grandchild in July
1995—a moment that brought him immense joy. Through the years four more were welcomed
into this world with loving arms of a great man. He loved each of his grandkids and was their
biggest supporter. He is survived by his loving wife, Pita Archuleta, of 61 years. His two children: Tammy Martinez(Jamie), and Joey Archuleta. Grandchildren: Brady Martinez, Justin Archuleta, Makayla
Martinez, Braydon Archuleta, and Peiton Archuleta. Along with many nieces and nephews.
Joe was one of twelve siblings. He is survived by Solo Archuleta, George Archuleta, Pat
Archuleta, Lucy Archuleta, Vickie Archuleta, Sylvia Johnston, Bernadine Faricy, his brother-in-
law Vidal Martinez (Jr.), and sister-in-law Marjean Mercado.He was preceded in death by both
his parents, his siblings Sally Archuleta, Maryann Franco, Bobby Archuleta, Ernest Archuleta,
his sister-in-law Yolanda Wolgram, and brother-in-law Percy Martinez.
Joe will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family
and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Grant Mortuary in Craig. A memorial mass will take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11:00 a.m with a luncheon to follow.
