Mary Thelma Knobeloch

Born February 6, 1936 in Peoria to Fredrick T. and Matilda Marie (Vogel) Grigg, she married Garth Knobeloch on November 21, 1959 at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Peoria.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years; two sons, Stephen (Terri) Knobeloch of East Peoria and John (Janet) Knobeloch of Indianapolis, Indiana; six grandchildren, Derek (Amy) Knobeloch, Ryan (Tomi) Knobeloch, Shelby (Ryan Martin, Fiancé) Knobeloch, all of East Peoria, Sabrina Knobeloch, Sophia Knobeloch, Garret Knobeloch, all of Indianapolis; one brother, Robert J. (Barb) Grigg of Sacramento, California and a host of other family and friends, all of which were very supportive of her over the years. Mary was looking forward to the birth of her first great-grandchild in January.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Fredrick H. Grigg.

Mary graduated from St. Bernard’s Grade School and Woodruff High School, both in Peoria. She then attended St. Ambrose College, where she graduated in 1958 with her degree in Nursing. Mary worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford and at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Mary’s favorite place to work, though, was in her own domain – her kitchen, and everyone knew it was hands off in her kitchen. Her specialties were cookies with her cookies making a debut in the East Peoria Times Courier.

Mary was a devoted member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in East Peoria.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private visitation for family will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur, with graveside services following at Fon du Lac Cemetery in East Peoria. Father John Steffen will officiate.
