

Born September 11, 1944 in Peoria to Earl and Elenor (Schmidt) Urban, he married Pamela Marie Wilhelm on May 15, 1965 in Creve Coeur. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Timothy (Patty) Urban of Washington, Paula (Tim) Schmidgall of Morton, Dave Severns of Creve Coeur, Tammy Urban of Creve Coeur and Jeff (Billie Jo) Urban of Pekin; seventeen grandchildren: Nicholas, Jennifer, Rachael, Jared, Jacob, Tyler, Tim Jr., Alexis, Sara, David, Samantha, Emilee, Skylar, Ethan, Deven, Dillon, and Brianna and twenty-seven great-grandchildren along with one brother, Phillip (Kathy) Urban of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kimberly R. Severns; and one brother, Fredrick “Buster” Urban.
Virgil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 61 years of marriage with Pam and will be fondly remembered for his deep love for family and friends, and his quick wit and sense of humor.
He was a lifelong member of Sacre Coeur Catholic Church until its closing and later joined St. Monica’s Catholic Church in East Peoria.
Virgil worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 38 years, retiring in 2003. He also proudly served his community as a volunteer with the Creve Coeur Fire Department for 25 years, including five years as Fire Chief. In retirement, he continued his service through various committees for the Village of Creve Coeur. He was also a past member of the White Cap Drifters Boat Club.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. Father John Steffen will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
