

He was born January 17, 1928, to Ransom Sonny France and Dovie Laverna Fields France, in Kanawha County.
Chester retired from the R & J Corporation where, for 41 years, he handled construction and maintenance needs at Riverview Terrace Apartments, the Medical Arts, and Atlas Buildings in Charleston. He was also a long-time member of the Tyler Heights Church of the Nazarene in Cross Lanes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Arvilla Mae Douglas France; son, William Chester “Shag” France; daughter, Paula Richardson; Grandson, J.C. Richardson; Great Grandson, Kenny Parrish; Sisters, Macel Rollins, Dorothy Washington, Hattie Lanham Smith, Gladys Westfall Dickerson; brothers, Otho, Hershel, and Junior “Junie” France.
Chester is survived by a son, Roger France of Cross Lanes; daughters, Brenda Gladwell of Winfield, Shirley Haynes of Nitro, Robin (Buddy) Bryant of Dunbar, Debra (Chris) McVey of Cross Lanes, 13 Grandchildren, Lee France, Aaron France, Deborah Parrish, Donna Waldron, William France, Steven France, Melissa Whittington, Leslie Smith, Justin Gladwell, Michelle Washington, Crystal Ingram, Dalton McVey, Eli McVey; 19 Great Grandchildren and 16 GG Grandchildren.
Celebration of Chester’s life will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 7, 2025 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Pastor John Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 1 until time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, WV 25311.
