

Felix Edward Porter (April 16, 1932-October 28, 2015), a husband, brother, father, and Papaw to many, returned home after a long journey. He is remembered for his kindness, thoughtfulness, and joy for life. He never met a stranger, regardless of where he roamed. Felix was born in Hamlin, WV the youngest of five children. After meeting the love of his life, Bonny, he relocated to Cross Lanes, WV where he lived for nearly sixty years raising a family of his own. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a retired Line Crew Supervisor at Appalachian Power Company with a career spanning 43 years. He was a baseball and softball coach to his children and often times father/mentor to their friends. Felix was especially known by many in need of wiring, lighting, etc.--the expertise of an electrician. He was a member of the Cross Lanes United Methodist Church since 1961, with informal “squatter rights” in the last pew on the right. He will be remembered for his never ending handshake, warm smile, and love for his grandchildren. Felix is survived by his wife, Bonny of 61 years; son, Dr. Dwayne Porter (Sherrie Porter) of Columbia, SC; daughters, Kathy Asbury (Eddie Asbury) of Wilmington, NC and Mitzi Boyd (Steve Boyd) of Canal Winchester, OH. He had seven grandchildren; Jessica McLeod (Dr. David McLeod), Dr. Justin Asbury (Dr. Tori Asbury), Kristy Pittman (SSgt JD Pittman), Dr. Ian Porter (Maggie Porter), Casey Boyd, Annie Boyd and Riley Boyd; and five great grandchildren; Piper and Brodi McLeod, Ryan and Lexi Asbury, and Carleigh Pittman. Felix will be greatly missed. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, November 27 at Cross Lanes United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm followed by a service at 2:00pm with the Reverend Gary Nelson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association of WV (alz.org). Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, WV is assisting the Porter family.
