George worked for the State of West Virginia for over 30 years. He was in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as an air traffic controller and was very proud of his military career. He enjoyed a full life of being very involved with his antique business at the Milton Flea Market as well as the Nitro Antique Mall. He and his loving wife enjoyed this together over a span of 63 years. They also traveled to 23 countries in their lifetime together. Before joining the military, George attended UK and was a walk-on for the men's basketball team. One of George’s favorite things to do was spending time with his grand dog, Jade. He enjoyed walking him many times daily, even when he didn’t feel well. He was always anxious to be there for little Jade. A few of his favorite things were collecting knives, eating Christmas cookies, brownies, and drinking Coke. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sue; sons, John Russell and his wife, Lety, of Houston, Texas, and Scott Russell and fiancee, Irma Ruby, of St. Albans; grandchildren, Jonathan Russell, Nasstaccia Garcia and Scotty Russell; and great-grandson, Ashton Garcia.
Gathering of family will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, St. Albans.
Celebration of George’s life will be 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the funeral home with HR Whittington as Celebrant. Military graveside rites will be conducted by St. Albans VFW Post 6418 and American Legion Post 73 at the funeral home.
The family would like to express special thanks for the care he received at CAMC Teays Valley from Dr. Fichter, Dr. Frame, Dr. Kelly and the nursing staff.
