James was born in Charleston, WV on June 19, 1942 to Joseph W. and Bessie M. Randolph. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary L. Randolph, of 54 years, and brothers, Charles “Chuck” and Lovell “Peanut” Randolph.
After graduating Nitro High School, he served his country by joining the U.S. Marine Corp and was deployed to Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. He was a proud veteran and could always be seen wearing his Marine Corp ballcap. He worked at American Viscose, Monsanto and eventually retired from M & G Polymers.
James was one of the most giving and kind souls you could ever meet. Known for his generosity and kindness, he often contributed to charities and gave to others in need, including strangers. He was “grandpa” or “dad” to many regardless of relation. He enjoyed woodworking, watching college football and NASCAR races, but what brought him the most joy later in life was watching his great-grandchildren play sports and perform. He could often be found at the ballpark, rain or shine.
James is survived by: daughter, Theresa Lynn Pauley (Mike), son, James Allen Randolph (Hayley Dunbar), his grandchildren, Nicholas Scott Niebaum (Somiyah Said), Justin Drew Randolph and Bailey Shane Randolph, great-grandchildren, Sophia Nichole Niebaum and Parker Samuel Niebaum, brother, Jessie Randolph, sisters, Betty Bryant and Carolyn Nickelson, and many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of James’s life will be held on Sunday, July 8, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at the Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes with Celebrant HR Whittington presiding.
Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by St Albans VFW Post 6418 and American Legion Post 73.
