Katherine Sue Young

Katherine was a proud graduate of Charleston High School, Class of 1973. She went on to married the love of her life, Arthur Young II, and together they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary—a milestone that reflected a lifetime of love, partnership, and devotion.

She was a loving wife and mother whose greatest joy came from her family. Katherine and Arthur shared one daughter, Heather Young of Nitro, West Virginia, whom she loved deeply. Katherine also cherished her pets and enjoyed spending time creating scrapbooks, preserving memories that will be treasured.

Katherine worked for many years at Heartland of Charleston in dietary services, where she was known for her dedication and caring nature.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles H. Shaffer, and her mother, Alice Hissom. She is survived by her brother Robert Shaffer and her sister Mary Wells.

Katherine will be remembered for her kindness and the deep love she had for her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Celebration of Katherine’s life will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Pastor John Hathaway officiating. Entombment will follow in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.

Gathering of family and friends will be from 10 until time of service at the funeral home.
