She was born July 29, 1949 in Belzonia, MS, the daughter of Willie B. and Willie G. Thomas Hales. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Roy L. Layton, Jr., great granddaughter, Faith N. Bolden and brother, Bobby Joe Hales.
Merna was a retired supervisor with Patton Building Services. She was the most amazing, caring, loveable and big hearted woman anyone would have ever met. She would help anyone who asked for it. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother anyone could have ever asked or dreamed for. She will always be extremely missed but forever loved.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Roy L. Layton, Sr., granddaughters, Samantha Bolden and Brittany Pitzer, great grandchildren, Hope Bolden, Ayeden Bolden and Landon Patton, sisters, Yvonne Davis, Dale Morrison, and Cynthia Hales, and brother, Willie Hales along with many other relatives.
