December 31, 1947 – January 4, 2025
Norman was born in Charleston, WV and was a graduate of Sissonville High School. He was the youngest of 7 children.
Norman was always good with his hands at a young age and was always helping his older brothers fix things. After high school, he worked in mechanic garages as an apprentice to learn how to become a mechanic.
He loved his work, but nothing compared to it after he found his soulmate. He met Barbara on a double blind-date. After that meeting, they were inseparable and finally culminated their love in marriage on December 31, 1970.
His passion was to help people at his job or in his community. Norman had a work ethic like no other person; he worked all of his life until his official retirement, but he never retired from helping people. He loved to help people work on anything and if he could not figure it out, “he knew a guy” who could help you. His warmth, kindness, and uncanny ability to connect with people from all walks of life made him a cherished friend to many.
A lover of old western shows and cartoons, Norman always wanted to sit and watch those programs and have the company at the house talk about them with him. He was amazed at the advancement of technology and always wanted to learn more about it. Norman also loved sitting outside swinging on an old swinger waving at people who passed by the house.
Norman is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Harper ; his children, Andrew (Cari) Harper and Matthew (Maggie) Harper, his grandchildren, Hanna, Autumn, Hailey and Georgia. His love, laughter, and generosity will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
