Arthur David “aRtie” Paletta, 61, of Raleigh, NC died Saturday January 28 rather unexpectedly. He was a kind-hearted man who won people over with his playful nature and will surely be missed by all who knew him.
“aRtie” was born September 30, 1950 in the Bronx, NY, to Justin and Louise Paletta. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1968 and went straight to work for Reader’s Digest as a computer analyst. He married his high-school sweetheart Irene Silva on August 25, 1973, and raised their two daughters, Laura and Eve, in Mahopac, NY. “aRtie” retired early from the Digest in 1996 (an accomplishment of which he was very proud) and moved to North Carolina, where he took another job with the state also in Information Technology. He was always very involved in the community; he coached his daughters’ MSA softball teams, served as President of the Lions Club, and organized big events and parties for work and the Lake Haven Association. Those who knew him best describe him as witty, creative, loving and somewhat of a “schooch” or pest. Photography, music and golf were his hobbies, but the thing he most enjoyed was playing with his granddaughter Jasmine.
“aRtie” is survived by his loving wife Irene in Raleigh, NC and his daughters and son-in-law, Laura Paletta of Richmond, VA and Eve and Jermaine Weaver of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Jasmine Alexis Weaver. In addition, he is survived by his brother Ray Paletta and wife Mary Jane, his parents-in-law Clarence and Laura Silva, sister-in-law Linda Bell and his 6 nieces and nephews. The roots of his family tree are widespread, with family members throughout the country.
The viewing will be held at the EDWARD F. CARTER FUNREAL HOME, 41 Grand St., Croton-on-Hudson, NY on February 1, between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
