Born on April 25, 1961, to Edith and Herbert Doran, Butch was raised in Briarcliff Manor, New York. In his early teenage years, he discovered what would become a lifelong passion for building. Through dedication, skill, and pride in his craft, he went on to build beautiful homes throughout Westchester County, becoming an accomplished award-winning builder, and leaving a lasting mark on the community he loved. He had a keen ability to see the final product before a shovel was lifted. His love for building ran deep but not deeper than his love for his family.
In high school, Butch met the love of his life, Linda (Kogelmann) Doran. From that moment on, they shared everything. Their love was steady, loyal, and enduring. Butch devoted himself completely to Linda — not just in words, but in the quiet, daily acts that defined their life together. He traveled with her, even when it meant doing things he didn’t particularly enjoy, simply because being by her side mattered most. He made her dinner every night and coffee every morning — small rituals that reflected a deep and constant love. Their partnership was built on commitment, laughter, sacrifice, and unwavering support.
Together they raised their daughter, Alana, who was the pride and joy of his life. He treasured every moment they had together from teaching her to ride a bike to driving a car to Carvel runs and vacations at LBI. He was so proud of her becoming a nurse and knowing like him, she found her passion and is living to its fullest.
Butch shared a lifelong bond with his sister, Denise. Growing up together created a connection built on understanding, loyalty, and quiet strength, a bond that remained important to him throughout his life.
He was incredibly funny and had a rare gift for bringing humor into even the heaviest moments. He knew exactly what to say and had a way of making anyone feel comfortable in his presence. He was easy to talk to, steady and reassuring, and had a warmth that drew people to him. To those who knew him best, he was simply the most loving person they had ever met.
Like his mother, Butch had a deep compassion for animals. He not only loved them, but went out of his way to care for them — even rescuing and saving trapped animals he found outside. His kindness extended to every living thing.
He will be remembered for his hardworking hands, his generous heart, his humor, and the fierce devotion he showed to his family every single day.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Linda; his daughter, Alana; his sister, Denise; his mother-in-law, Irene Kogelmann; his sister-in-law, Betsy (Cyrus) Whitney, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. And his adorable and forever by his side, Cookie. His absence leaves an immeasurable void, but the love he gave so freely will remain with his family forever.
