John McGowan

John was born on May 9, 1923 to the late Patrick McGowan and Mary Guilfoyle, in Leitrim, Ireland. John was a successful painting contractor who was a master in his field. He had a devoted customer following and operated his own business in the Bronx, NY, until he retired as age 70

He is survived by his beloved daughters, Debra Sullivan and her husband David, and Dorothy Rabbitt; adoring grandchildren, Dennis, Kevin and Sean. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Eileen M. McGowan on October 19, 1986.

John was an avid sports fan who loved his NY Mets. He also enjoyed fishing, especially in the Catskill Mountains, gardening and taking care of his many German Shepherd companions throughout his years.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the EDWARD F. CARTER FUNERAL HOME, 41 Grand St., Croton-on-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 8th at Holy Name of Mary Church in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Yonkers.
