Stephen Kenneth Dishart, a resident of Croton-on-Hudson, NY, passed away on April 7, 2026. He was 67 years old. Stephen was born on July 8, 1958, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the fifth son to the late Urban E. and Theresa G. (Napier) Dishart. He graduated from Penn Hills High School in 1976 and West Virginia University in 1980. As a young father, he received his master’s in communication from Duquesne in 1991 and graduated the Insead Executive Program in Fontainebleau, France in 2003. He had many professions, working in radio, communications, and public relations; receiving global recognition when he created and successfully managed crises communications response for SwissRe, largest insurer of 9/11 losses. More recently, he worked for many years finding his calling as a professor at Baruch University, Farleigh Dickson, and NYU in New York City. He maintained his youthful optimism even as he got older, often wondering what he would be when he finally “grew up.” He was a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates, especially his favorite player Roberto Clemente. A dedicated golfer, he proudly avoided the golf cart for the “exercise.” He firmly believed in quality time and enjoyed many evenings watching the sunset over the river by his home. As much as he loved his job as a professor, his favorite jobs were always Husband, Father, Godfather, Grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his wife Susan, his three children Stephanie, Justin, and Melissa and his three grandchildren. One of the five Dishart boys, he is survived by Urbie, Danny, and Greg.
He was predeceased by his brother Jeff, with whom he was very close.
A memorial service for close friends and family is scheduled for Saturday April 11, 2026 in Somers. In addition, a remembrance celebration will be held this summer on Saturday July 11, 2026: more details to follow for all who knew and loved him.
Per his wishes, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his honor to Green Chimneys, a non-profit organization he passionately supported and where he served as a Friends of Green Chimneys Advisory Board member.
