George Leslie Hobby Crown Point, IN George Leslie Hobby age 73, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathleen Hobby; daughters, Cyndi (late Joe) Drish, Dawn (Bryan) Belicek and Cheryl Hobby; granddaughters, Alexandra Hobby, Izzabella Belicek, Ivy Belicek and Adalyn Hobby. George was born April 18, 1947 in Chicago, IL to the late George Harris and Mary Catherine Hobby and was a 1965 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School. George proudly served our country as a Medic in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He received his BA in Education and later earned his MA in Special Needs Elementary from Chicago State University. On August 23, 1969, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Rogowski and together they raised 3 daughters. George retired from Illinois Central Railroad with 28 years of service. George continued his career as a teacher for Chicago Public School Corporation for 12 years. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed traveling to Tennessee, bowling and spending time with his family. George was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather and will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Avenue Crown Point, IN) with Rev. Patrick J. Kalich officiating. Entombment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday, November 2, 2020 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105 or Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital 225 E. Chicago Avenue Chicago, IL 60611. Due to the current conditions of Covid-19, masks are required for attendance at the funeral home and the cemetery.
