M. Dean Grove, 85, of Crystal Lake, IL passed away October 25 at his home. Dean was born on June 24,1940 in Columbus, OH to Merwin and Nina Grove. He graduated from Depaul University and spent his career as a computer programmer, a career that he loved tremendously, so much so that he couldn't believe he got paid to have that much fun. Dean married his best friend Martha McNally in 1976. He loved traveling and completed visiting all 50 states in 2024. Equal to his love of traveling was his joy in spending time with family and friends. The Chicago Bears were both his love and his biggest frustration, and he was happy to be able to watch his last couple games with Bears' wins.
Rooted deeply in his faith, Dean radiated grace in everything he did. He treated everyone with kindness, prayer, and comfort without hesitation. His life was a reflection of his belief in serving others and walking humbly with the Lord. His faith was his foundation, and his love for people his greatest legacy. Above all, Dean loved unconditionally, touching every life with warmth and compassion.
Dean is survived by his four children, David Grove, Joanne (Kevin) Walsh, Sarah (Jeremy) Draftz, William (Kathleen) Grove and 8 grandchildren, Taylor, Travis, Caitlin, Nathan, Ashley, Madeline, Ellie and Gavin.
He was preceded in death by his wife Martha, his brother Ronald, and his sister Donna.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at the Grand Oaks Recreation Center in Crystal Lake. Doors open at 4:30, with the eulogy beginning at 6:00 pm and military honors following. All who knew Dean are invited to come and celebrate his life. Please wear a pair of your most colorful, craziest socks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dean's name to The Trevor Project or a charity of your choice.
"You will have found Christ when you are concerned with other people's sufferings and not your own."
