

He was born October 24, 1933 in Chicago to Elliott and Elsie (Ungeheuer) Rhodes. On May 4, 1957 he married Carol L. Overton in Chicago.
Don was a veteran of the United States Army. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Don was an avid trumpet player who played for over 60 years. He played in many groups over the years which included the Woodstock City Band, John Guerra Band, Vito Buffalo Band, McHenry City Band, MCC Band, Sun City Concert Band, and the Sinful Saints. He also played Taps for many veterans.
Don worked at ITW/Shakeproof for 35 years. He was also a longtime member of First Congregational Church in Crystal Lake.
Don will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his sons, David (Janice) Rhodes and Jeffrey (Vicky) Rhodes; his grandchildren, Jessica, Zachary, Thomas “TJ” Rhodes; his sister, Janet (Bob) Greer; and his nephew, Eddie Moore.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Raymond Moore.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm on Friday, March 3 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. There will be a continued visitation from 9 to 10am on Saturday, March 4 at the funeral home. The funeral service will follow at 10am. Interment will be in Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to establish a music scholarship in Don’s name.
