Georgia Brown, age 65, of Crystal Lake, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, July 12th, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. Born in 1958 to a house full of brothers in Lake in the Hills, IL, she was the only daughter of David and June (Proebsting) Gilliland, and later the beloved step-daughter of Henry “Hank” Rolewski.
Georgia was an adoring mom and grandma and a most singular woman, to which anyone who knew her can attest. She was clever and kind, brilliant and beautiful, and a dedicated friend to all who loved her. She was passionate about reading, learning, and teaching, and she was a wellspring of marginally useless delightful knowledge. She earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Geology while raising two kids, and went on to teach college-level earth science for many years. She loved her pugs, listening to music, devouring books, binging tv shows, going to the movies, and most of all, spending time with the people she loved.
Georgia is survived by her children: Dorr Brown (Jenny Pesina) and Rachel Starr (Noah); her grandchildren: Tory Brown, Hazel Starr, Autumn Pesina, and Calvin Pesina; her siblings: Kevin Gilliland (Joanne), Greg Rolewski (Debra), and Patrick Gilliland; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: David Gilliland, Dewey Gilliland, and Steven Gilliland; and her co-parenting partner, Christopher Brown.
A celebration of life will be held for Georgia at a later date; details will be shared when they are available.
